Tasman East - The Station

Santa Clara, CA
Description Credits/Info

Tasman East – The Station is a catalyst for transforming the northern area of Santa Clara near Levi’s Stadium from light industrial and intermittent strip centers into a transit-oriented, high density residential district. Located at the gateway to the Tasman East district, immediately adjacent to a VTA light rail station and accessible via pedestrian greenways to the Guadalupe River trail system, the project includes both a high-rise and mid-rise building surrounding a newly proposed public plaza and park.

Both buildings offer rich interior and exterior amenities including pool decks, community gardens, game rooms, club rooms, libraries, gym facilities and roof decks with views to the activity at Levi’s Stadium. The public realm is engaged by wide sidewalks fronted with retail and exterior restaurant patios. A building-mounted screen activates the central plaza with movie nights and forms a backdrop to morning farmers’ markets.

Specific architectural attention is given to the building massing and articulation at key district-wide corners and the new public plazas. The buildings’ design subtly reference the industrial past while projecting an image of Silicon Valley’s future as a vibrant urban hub. BAR will be collaborating with artists on a variety of building and landscape aspects, including a façade mounted screen above the retail storefronts and along the pedestrian greenway.

High quality materials are used throughout, with unique expression at ground level retail areas. Stormwater treatment occurs in bioswales bridged with wood decking pedestrian paths which connect runners and walkers with trails leading to the San Francisco Bay, engaging the community in educational opportunities about the health of the Bay waters.
