The 140 Geary Street project in San Francisco required significant renovation to an existing 10-story retail and commercial office building. In addition to major structural and building system upgrades, the project included renovations of both the exterior facade and interior public spaces.
At the first floor, a new “Italianate-style” terra cotta facade was installed to make it architecturally consistent with the original 1910 facade. In the entry lobby, carved stone walls simulate the fluting on an over-scale elliptical column, complemented by a stone floor, cornice and elaborate cut stone surrounds.
At the 10th floor, rentable office space was expanded with a glass-walled “penthouse” addition. At this level, new windows and exterior decks were also added to provide views to Union Square as well as the surrounding San Francisco skyline.
