Orchard Hills

Description Credits/Info

BAR Architects designed a new neighborhood shopping center in a Tuscan-style, town-and-country vernacular, as desired by the client. Authentic in design, the village center uses materials such as stone, stucco and tile roofs that speak to traditional Tuscan architecture. 113,000 gsf of retail includes a grocery market and drugstore, which serve as anchors for the complex, in-line stores and small retail kiosks.

BAR designed the retail areas around a town center plaza with trellises, comfortable seating and outdoor dining areas to create a neighborhood feel and a respite from shopping where people could gather, socialize and dine. The village center surrounds a surface parking lot planted with olive trees, designed to reference the orchard that originally stood on the property, and gives a nod to the Tuscan landscape. Retail pad sites are also included in the overall site. As a unique feature of this project, BAR created a design criteria for those sites to blend with the center’s design, as well as assisted with the design of certain sites.
