Tasman East – Central is a workforce housing community designed on a constrained site located within the Tasman East Focus Area Plan. The project was designed from the get-go to be constructed of fully prefabricated modular dwelling units and corridors. All the project’s units are located above podium in the prefabricated construction, limiting the site built work to retail, amenity spaces, and parking. The efficient and compact design fronts two pedestrian streets and a vehicular way.
The building’s massing is informed by the modular proportions, with a saw tooth stepped plan celebrating the its main corner. Color is used to highlight the façade’s planar expression and articulation. Residential amenities include a lounge, gym, courtyard and bbq roof deck.
The Central is part of the Tasman East Focus Area, a catalyzing City plan for transforming the northern area of Santa Clara near Levi’s Stadium from light industrial and intermittent strip centers into a vibrant, transit-oriented, high-density residential district. BAR’s work includes five parcels total, with two high rises and three mid-rises of varying wood construction types – traditional stick framing, panelized construction and fully modular construction.
