This project is the headquarters for the Delancey Street Foundation, an innovative and highly successful rehabilitation program for drug abusers and former convicts, with centers in New York, Los Angeles and Santa Fe. The Foundation's activities are supported almost entirely by business enterprises operated by program participants.

The clients wished to house all residential and commercial functions in one 325,000 gsf, four-story building. The program includes 177 units of communal housing, a 400-seat public restaurant, a 150-seat screening room, a health club with pool, a 500-seat assembly hall, an auto repair shop with antique car museum, workshops and all of the other services required for an almost completely self-contained community of 500 people. The project was constructed by the program participants as a cooperative venture between the San Francisco Building Trades Council and Delancey Street.
