Sun Microsystems

Menlo Park, CA
Description Credits/Info Recognition

Desiring to foster an environment encouraging interaction and collaboration, BAR Architects designed Sun Microsystem's 56.9-acre campus with the concept of an "interior pedestrian street" where outdoor spaces serve as extensions of the workplace. Designed in an informal, crescent-like shape, buildings totaling 1,000,000 gsf are sited to respond to adjacent bay views, wind conditions, solar orientation and parking constraints.

Offices, a training facility, indoor/outdoor dining, an auditorium and a fitness center are included in the plan. A variety of unique spaces afford opportunities for spontaneous meetings and exchange of ideas in a campus-like setting.
