BAR Architects designed the new Jungels-Winkler Residence Hall for Scripps College, an all-women liberal arts college in the Claremont Colleges Consortium. Located in the residential quadrant of the pristine, historic campus, master-planned in 1929 by the noted Southern California architect, Gordon Kaufman, this building fits seamlessly with the traditional campus architecture while setting new living standards for all its students.

The new two and three-story building, with a partial basement for storage and utilities, is designed as a large house, providing single, double and suite-style occupancy units for 86 students. It has a formal living room, library, recreation room, casual lounges with kitchenettes, laundry facilities and offices. An intimate courtyard with decorative paving and citrus trees (another tradition on campus) faces north while an active social terrace, paved with stone, faces south, complementing a major pedestrian walk to the center of campus.
