This contemporary custom home is designed on one of 45 exclusive private home lots that are a part of a new five-star luxury resort 10 minutes north of Healdsburg owned and operated by Montage Resorts. This home site is located on an oak studded rolling hillside above the Russian River and Alexander Valley with views of the hills, vineyards and valleys beyond. Preserving the natural beauty of the site and taking inspiration from the location were fundamental to the design of the home.
Drawing inspiration from the simple rural barn vernacular of Sonoma County the house is composed of simple abstracted barn shapes positioned to preserve the large existing oak trees on the site, create outdoor rooms and orient the wings of the house to specific views of surrounding mountains and valleys. In order to break up the simple masses, large corner openings are carved out of the living room and upstairs bedroom and simple large steel windows open up the ends of bedrooms serving to help the mass of the home dissolve into the wooded backdrop and open the house to the natural landscape. The living spaces flow to the outdoors with floor to ceiling glazing or large sliding glass doors to decks. Grey wood siding, dark window frames and simple forms have been selected for the wine country location with the intent of minimizing the visual impact and having the homes blend with the surrounding oak woodlands. In response to Healdsburg’s unique climate and suitability for indoor outdoor living, large sliding glass doors open to generous outdoor living areas. Amenities of the include full outdoor kitchen, outdoor dining, outdoor fireplace, outdoor hot tub, and electric golf cart parking for owners to access the hotel amenities and services.
The single-family neighborhood will also be “Green-Point Rated” with a minimum of 30 points for sustainable features.
