This contemporary custom home is to be built on one of 45 exclusive private home lots that are a part of a new five-star luxury resort 10 minutes north of Healdsburg owned and operated by Montage Resorts. This home site is located on an oak studded rolling hillside above the Russian River and Alexander Valley with views of the hills, vineyards and valleys beyond. Preserving the natural beauty of the site and taking inspiration from the location were fundamental to the design of the home.
In response to the topography and the steepness of the hillside and in an effort to touch the ground as lightly as possible, the floor plan of the house is broken into smaller bedroom and living wings connected by glazed links to allow the house to conform to the undulations of the hill. In cross section, the rooms step down the hill and open up with large windows and decks to the views. Using a simple modern vocabulary of solid and void elements, the house is broken up into planes of light and dark that bring nature into the homes but also serve to help the mass of the home dissolve into the wooded backdrop. The living spaces flow to the outdoors with floor to ceiling glazing or large sliding glass doors to decks. Grey wood siding, dark window frames and simple forms have been selected for the wine country location with the intent of minimizing the visual impact and having the homes blend with the surrounding oak woodlands. In response to Healdsburg’s unique climate and suitability for indoor outdoor living, large sliding glass doors open to generous outdoor living areas. Amenities of the include full outdoor kitchen, outdoor dining, outdoor fireplace, outdoor hot tub, and electric golf cart parking for owners to access the hotel amenities and services.
The single-family neighborhood will also be “Green-Point Rated” with a minimum of 30 points for sustainable features.
