INSPIRATION / SELECTED PROJECTS
“I am inspired and humbled by the fact that purposeful architecture has the potential to reach beyond site boundaries to address the most significant needs of our time like climate change, social equity and community connections.”
How have you personally focused on sustainability?
I have a strong interest in the research and application of alternative construction technologies including volumetric and panelized modular systems as well as low embodied carbon materials like mass timber. Decarbonization and electrification of our communities along with planning for net zero water is essential for a sustainable future of our built environment. It’s also imperative that we design spaces that promote social equity, providing access and resources to healthy living including food, physical activities, and connection to nature to help create cost effective, sustainable and resilient communities.
What inspires you as an architect?
History, culture and nature greatly inspire me to create site-specific contextual design. I am also inspired and humbled by design’s potential to create purposeful spaces that improve the quality of life for users, advocate for the better treatment of our environment, play a part in solving social issues and in the process transform people and communities around us.
When did you know you wanted to be an architect?
When I was nine years old, my parents introduced me to architecture so that I could combine my love for drawing with science while making a positive contribution to society. Around the same time, Indian architect Charles Correa’s vision for the new city of New Bombay was turning into reality. As a child, it was fascinating to me that a single person had the capacity and the capability to design a house similar to the one I lived in, as well as design an entire city that all my school friends and their families could live in! Since then, I never wanted to be anything else in my life other than an architect.
