BAR-designed faculty housing for Stanford University under construction
Palo Alto, CA – Faced with skyrocketing housing costs in the region, the university has started construction on University Terrace, a 180-unit residential project for faculty that is expected to open early next year. David Israel, a principal at BAR Architects, which worked on the design, said that the university will not only subsidize this housing to attract the best and brightest, but has also been thoughtful about the quality of the project.
"I don’t know of any other higher education entities that are making this level of investment with their faculty,” said Israel. “As a client they’ve been incredibly attentive to meeting with a number of committees on the campus to ensure that these units are reflecting what the faculty would like to have.”
This new development — which has 112 condos and 68 single-family homes — includes amenities such as parks, a community pool with spa, two tot lots, a fitness facility and an outdoor BBQ area.
