50 Percent of Technical Staff Become LEED Accredited

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--BAR Architects, an 80-person architectural firm in San Francisco, Calif., is proud to announce the recent LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accreditation of over 50 percent of the firm's technical staff.

"As a result of our significant firm-wide knowledge and experience, every BAR design team has the knowledge, experience and resources to proactively guide the project toward sustainable design solutions," said Guy Chambers, chief executive officer of BAR Architects. "Our in-house program, led by Associate Principal Susan McComb, AIA, LEED, enables priorities and clear goals to be established with our clients and encourages incorporation of sustainable design and high-performance elements in our projects resulting in the realization of additional green buildings."

BAR's commitment to incorporate sustainable design principles and the LEED Green Building Rating System® in the practice is evidenced by past as well as a number of recent projects. Most notably, the firm is currently working on the sustainable design of California State University, Chico's 115,000-gsf Student Services Center. Once completed, the project will achieve LEED Gold certification while adhering to strict budgetary constraints. Other projects recently designed to meet LEED design standards include the Residential Life Complex at the University of California, Merced and the El Segundo Student Services Center at the University of California, Davis. BAR Architects' early experience with sustainable design dates as far back as the 1970s when BAR designed one of the first sod-roofed houses in the country, located in Keystone, Colo.

In addition to designing sustainable buildings, BAR Architects will soon be housed in San Francisco's first green office building to be registered with the United States Green Building Council. In January 2005, the firm will relocate to 543 Howard Street, a green office building in San Francisco's South of Market district, further solidifying BAR's commitment to sustainable design. Tenant Improvements for BAR's 25,000-gsf office space will also be LEED certified.

LEED accredited personnel include: Andrew Backer, Marana Chow, Wendy Cowles, Norman Cuccio, Rick Derington, Ross Garland, Angie Gormas, Chris Haegglund, John Imhoff, David Israel, Mark Kelly, John V.
