DSRT Surf Resort

Palm Desert, CA

CHLORINE & SURFING: A LOVE STORY  Centered around a Wavegarden Cove surf pool, DSRT Surf offers a man-made surfing and out-of-the-water experiences that are authentically “surf”. Hotel, spa, event, food and beverage, and a variety of land-based programs augment the surfing experience.

MAKING IT SURF  Inspired by a continuum of Desert Modern architectural history, the design vocabulary embraces materials of the place including obscure elements such as ocotillo branches as solar shading and rammed earth walls. Rooted in specific place and time, the design avoids direct connections to a particular kind of beach architecture.

SUSTAINABILITY AT THE CORE  The buildings are designed to incorporate as many passive strategies as possible for maintaining user comfort during unreliable desert weather. While there are strategies to provide active interior climate control, the buildings can also be opened up to the outside.
