The Library of Congress' new home for its Motion Picture Broadcasting and Recorded Sound division is designed to fulfill multiple educational, administrative and cultural objectives.

The complex provides facilities for archiving, exhibiting and preserving the Library’s irreplaceable original audio and visual collection as well as research facilities, educational programs and offices. A centrally located conservation and preservation laboratory, a climate-controlled collections building, a 208-seat theater, 9 sound design and 2 screening rooms, nitrate film vaults, offices and a specialized mechanical plant for the entire facility completes the building.

The design incorporates 228,000 gsf of green roofs, visually integrating this large building into the hillside while at the same time taking advantage of the earth's natural cooling properties.
